Bringing Nature into Work for Mental Health
In recent years we have seen increasing emphasis on employers’ duty to prevent psychological injuries in the workplace. There has also been growing recognition of the benefits of implementing measures designed to promote the mental health of workers. This presentation will discuss emerging research relating to nature-based interventions in the workplace to explore if and how such interventions could effectively be incorporated into workplace wellbeing programs.
There is a mounting body of empirical research highlighting the health benefits of exposure to nature, lessons from which are starting to impact how healthcare is delivered and how modern cities are designed. It is not surprising then that researchers are now starting to examine how such benefits could be delivered in workplace settings to improve the mental health of workers. This presentation will explain the theories underpinning this area of research and provide examples of specific types of nature-based interventions that have been found to enhance the mental health of workers. The presentation will also foreshadow how this body of research is expected to evolve in the future.
