How to speak Executive: Putting Health on the Corporate Risk agenda
Prior to COVID-19, Health as an issue was largely absent from Corporate Risk registers. This meant that the health of employees was not being discussed as a priority risk at the most senior levels.
So when organisations say that the ‘Health’ of people are their priority or most important asset, this was not being translated to a Corporate Risk perspective. The challenge with elevating health to Corporate Risk registers is two-fold; communication – use of language and boundary of responsibility.
COVID-19 has highlighted that the Health of people is a significant risk to all organisations. We have seen a shift to people’s health being discussed at Executive levels but the need to embed health within the corporate risk systems is yet to be embraced.
OHS professionals have a role in understanding the communication and scope to influence the conversations through using the same language and corporate risk frames of reference at an Executive and Board Level.
