Impact of COVID-19 on safety performance

The Australian COVID-19 situation has required many workers to leave their normal workplace, and many workers have lost their jobs. The result of these changes is forecasted to be a reduction in the Gross Domestic Product in WA, other States and nations. As part of Tanya’s current PhD research investigation, she has found a relationship between organisational safety performance, and external factors including GDP.

Organisations which do not design their injury prevention strategies to be resilient to economic changes such as those brought on by the Global Financial Crisis and COVID19 may be surprised by a reduction in their effectiveness, as there is a legal obligation to maintain a safe workplace at all times.

This presentation will review the outcome of employee perceived risks pre COVID 19 and post COVID 19 along with changes to occupational injury rates as a result of the economy.  This presentation will provide insights to OHS professionals on the impact of COVID 19 on occupational injury rates in Western Australia.
