Leadership: Why isn’t workplace health & Safety improving?
It is possible to believe that workplace health and safety in Australian workplaces is improving because the traumatic fatality rate is declining, but the measurements of “success” are too narrow and do not provide an accurate representation of the level of workplace harm in Australia. This situation is restricting progress on harm reduction because the situation seems manageable, but it isn’t.
The strategies to provided safe jobs and safe workplaces are well-known but are not implemented. This presentation looks at the barriers to achieving the level of change that the community expects and identifies ways that the OHS profession can expand its influence.
